Arsenal defender Hincapie injured after Leeds win
Arsenal's Hincapie injured after Leeds victory

Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie had to be carried off following the Gunners' 2-1 victory over Leeds United, according to BBC Sport. The Ecuador stopper was reportedly assisted off the pitch after suffering an ankle injury during the team's warm-down, having undertaken additional running after the final whistle.

Fresh blow for Arteta's squad

The injury represents an ill-timed setback for Mikel Arteta's squad, with William Saliba already ruled out due to a back complaint. Hincapie entered the match as a full-back in the closing stages to replace Riccardo Calafiori, but any extended absence would leave Arsenal perilously light in defence.

Cristhian Mosquera was left out of the matchday squad for the resumption of Premier League football and has not appeared for the Gunners since August 31, when he started in the 1-0 triumph over Aston Villa. Summer signing Ezri Konsa overcame discomfort to feature in the victory over Daniel Farke's outfit, after sitting out of England's final Nations League match during the break, a 3-0 success over Czechia at Wembley Stadium.

Arteta reflects on comeback win

Reflecting on the win afterwards, Arteta said: "It's been a special week. I felt extremely respected and loved, and the best way to give back is by winning football matches.

"It was a difficult context to get into the game with the defeat against Brighton, still hurting, and having three weeks without players. We had 16 players travelling the world, and basically a day to prepare for a massive game.

"I think we started really, really well, but we didn't punish them in the right areas and in situations where we should have finished with much bigger chances and threat.

"Then the game is open, and they're a team that is very physical, very direct, really intense in the pressing, and every time they hit the box, you are in trouble.

"We conceded the goal, and then it's: what are we made of? You've come from a defeat, so I pinched them a little bit about what it means to wear this shirt and how you have to react in difficult moments.

"The response was incredible - firstly from the players, then from the crowd. We created that energy, that belief, that conviction that we're going to turn the game around, and then the finishers came in and made a huge difference.

"When you come from a heavy defeat and when emotionally you've been punched, that's what we need. Regardless of the context of the game, you find a way to win it."

Comeback sealed by Guimaraes

Arsenal were forced to mount a comeback to win for the second time in three games as Bruno Guimaraes proved the north London side's saviour. Following a goalless first half, Leeds needed just 10 minutes after the restart to break the deadlock when James Justin struck home at the far post.

The advantage proved fleeting as Calafiori levelled matters merely seven minutes afterwards, before the Brazilian sealed the turnaround eight minutes later by firing into the bottom corner.
