Strictly Come Dancing sparked fury minutes into the BBC show on Saturday night (October 10) after Couple's Choice made an epic return to the dancefloor. Viewers flocked to social media to share their disappointment online, demanding a major format change.
The star-studded cast returned with a bang after fans bid farewell to Amy Dowden and Chris Appleton during Movie Week last week. This week, the celebrities were forced to up their game once more as they danced their hearts out for a place in next week's show.
Couple's Choice return divides viewers
One of the first couples to take to the dancefloor was Love Island star Cach Mercer and his dance partner, new pro dancer Maddie Ingoldsby. The dancing duo took a break from traditional ballroom and Latin dances and brought back Couple's Choice, where the reality star showed off his street dance and hip-hop skills that shot him to stardom on TikTok.
It's fair to say they wowed the judges, with Craig Revel Horwood awarding him a score of seven, while Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas, and Anton Du Beke gave him eight points. Walking away with an impressive score of 31 points out of a possible 40, the duo jumped up the leaderboard, but viewers were less than impressed at home.
Fans call for themed week
Taking to X - formerly known as Twitter - many viewers fumed that BBC bosses should have made Couple's Choice a themed week on the BBC reality show.
One user suggested: "Every pair should do their Couple's Choice on the same week!" as another fumed: "I say this every year, but Couple's Choice should be a themed week. It gives the one couple doing it a massive advantage..."
"How can anyone judge a dance with rules against a dance with none? Strictly, I will die on this hill." A third echoed: "For the umpteenth time, they should have a Couple's Choice week."
"How can you have Latin and Ballroom judges mark a 'fusion freestyle streetdance' against actual steps of a Waltz, Samba or Tango that they will say are wrong?"
