Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed the club faces an anxious wait to discover the severity of Alexander Isak's injury after the striker was forced off during their hard-fought 2-1 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
Goal and Injury in the Same Moment
The incident occurred on Saturday, 20th December 2025, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Alexander Isak, who had entered the fray as a half-time substitute, broke the deadlock just ten minutes later with a powerful finish past Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. The £125 million summer signing was set clear by a superb pass from Florian Wirtz.
However, the Swede's joy was instantly cut short. As he struck the ball, Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven clattered into him in a desperate attempt to block the shot. Isak immediately went down in clear agony, prompting concerned teammates to rush to his side.
Slot's Post-Match Assessment
Isak was eventually helped from the pitch by two members of Liverpool's medical staff and replaced by Jeremie Frimpong. Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the game, Slot admitted the situation was concerning but said a full diagnosis was yet to be determined.
"We'll have to wait and see," Slot stated. "It is too short after the game to speak about it but it is never good when a player has to come off. The other two (Isak and Conor Bradley) we'll have to wait and see. The good thing is that we have a week to go so hopefully we have enough players available to play next week again."
The manager also clarified that Frimpong's own substitution later in the match was due to a bloody lip from a clash with Richarlison, not a serious injury.
Liverpool Survive Late Tottenham Scare
Despite the injury setback, Liverpool managed to secure all three points. Following Isak's opener, Hugo Ekitike doubled the lead with a towering header from a Frimpong cross. Tottenham's Richarlison pulled a goal back to set up a nervy finale, which saw Spurs reduced to nine men after Cristian Romero received a second yellow card in added time.
Slot reflected on a frantic ending, saying, "It's unbelievable if you play against nine men that I would not be surprised if for the nine minutes they had the ball for eight and half. That is not what you expect and maybe that tells you where we are in this season."
The focus for Liverpool now, however, will firmly be on the fitness of their record signing as they prepare for their next Premier League fixture.
