Amad hints at Man United return as Carrick eyes boost

Manchester United forward Amad has hinted that he is closing in on a return to action. The Ivory Coast international is yet to feature this season due to injury.

He picked up the problem on the eve of the Premier League opening day clash vs Hull City. Amad featured in all of Ivory Coast’s matches in the World Cup over the summer, scoring in the win over Ecuador and the defeat against Norway in the round of 32.

Extended break and recovery

After an extended summer break due to his participation in the tournament, the 24-year-old returned to United and featured in pre-season games as preparations for the new season stepped up.

After missing the last seven games in all competitions, Amad has hinted that there is not long to wait until his comeback. Posting on his Instagram story, he shared a picture of himself at Old Trafford last season with an egg timer and a frustrated face emoji.

The extended international break means that he will have slightly longer to step up his recovery before the Premier League returns. United are next in action on Saturday, 10 October (5.30pm kick-off) when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

Carrick’s positive update

Speaking ahead of the international break, Michael Carrick delivered a positive update on the winger. “Amad, hopefully, by the time we get back, he will have trained with the group. That's a positive,” he said.

A potential return for Amad will be a big boost for Carrick. Last season, he played 32 times in the Premier League, scoring twice and providing four assists.

Other injury concerns

It comes as the United boss has been handed some injury worries over the international break. Full-back Noussair Mazraoui was substituted during Morocco’s win over Lesotho on Tuesday night.

Patrick Dorgu is also an injury concern after being forced off the pitch in Denmark’s win over Wales on Sunday. Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Benjamin Sesko all withdrew from their respective international squads before the international break.

There was also a worry over Bruno Fernandes, who missed Portugal’s win over Norway on Sunday. But it seems that he could be available for Thursday’s clash vs Denmark, with the United captain back in training ahead of that match.
