Veteran sprinter Woven can exploit a tumbling handicap mark to land the Book Racing On Saturday 31 October Handicap (4.40) at Ayr on Monday.
The ten-year-old is part of the fabric at Ayr, where he will make his 12th appearance. The surprise is that he has only one course and distance victory and two seconds to his name. He scored his overdue success 12 months ago when he won a Class 4 6f handicap off a rating of 84.
Return to Scotland
Woven ran respectably off the same mark 11 days ago when ninth in the Bronze Cup, but now he returns to Scotland to run from 81. The winner of over £200,000 in prize-money has never run off such a low mark and will be in his element in the heavy conditions.
The testing going should also bring about a change in fortunes for Stanage, who can bounce back to form in the Autumn Breaks At Western House Hotel Handicap (3.38).
Stanage well treated
Mick and David Easterby’s seven-year-old has had a light campaign and not raced since July, when down the field in a Doncaster handicap on fast ground. He was in much better form this time last year, running his best race on heavy ground at Doncaster in October. Once rated 87, he looks well treated off 71 today.
Bath hope
At Bath, Millie Wonnacott can enjoy another rewarding day on Toolatetonegiate in the SW Hire Handicap. The 5lb claimer has ridden the four-year-old 12 times, winning three and finishing placed on six other occasions.
She rode the Daisy Hitchins-trained mare to a commanding victory at Bath in May and, after a decent effort at Lingfield last time, can steer her back into the winners’ enclosure.
