Donald Trump has been accused of cheating on the golf course in videos that have gone viral on social media. The footage, reportedly taken at his Turnberry course in Scotland, allegedly shows the US President receiving help from a caddie who dropped the ball in a favourable position, as well as other rule-bending incidents.
One clip shows Trump attempting to chip the ball but landing it in a bunker. After getting back onto the green, he misses a putt and then another wayward shot, before eventually picking up the ball without finishing the hole. Another video, recorded discreetly from inside a building, shows Trump pulling up in a golf cart with two caddies, one of whom stops and drops a ball in front of the President in an advantageous spot.
The clips quickly spread online, with many commentators accusing Trump of cheating. Some noted that similar allegations have been made before. US sportswriter Rick Reilly previously authored a book titled Commander in Cheat about Trump's relationship with golf. In an excerpt published by Golf.com, Reilly wrote: 'Trump doesn’t just cheat at golf. He cheats like a three-card Monte dealer. He throws it, boots it, and moves it. He lies about his lies. He fudges and foozles and fluffs.'
According to Reilly, caddies at Winged Foot, where Trump is a member, reportedly nicknamed him 'Pelé' due to his habit of kicking the ball back onto the fairway. The latest allegations add to a history of claims regarding Trump's conduct on the golf course.
