Former Swansea City hero Lee Trundle is still going strong, just a few months ahead of his 50th birthday. The veteran, who also played for Wrexham and Bristol City during his professional career, has signed for Ardal South East League side Cwmbran Town.
Trundle remains a club ambassador for the Swans, but has opted to prolong his grassroots career by signing for the 21st club of his career. The forward spent last season at Cymru South side Pure Swansea, whom he helped win promotion from the Ardal South West League.
The Liverpudlian has also enjoyed spells at a number of other Welsh domestic sides over the years, including Trefelin BGC, Mumbles Rangers, Ammanford, Haverfordwest County and Llanelli Town. He's also turned out for English non-league sides Marine and Chester since leaving Preston 13 years ago.
Trundle's Ambition at Cwmbran
"I'm delighted to be joining Cwmbran Town. It's a club with a proud history, passionate people and real ambition for the future," Trundle said shortly after signing. "I've had some fantastic conversations with those involved and I can see what they're trying to build. If I can help the players, help the younger generation coming through and play my part in helping Cwmbran move back towards where a club of this size belongs, then that's something I'm excited to be part of."
Cwmbran could well be in with a shout of promotion this season, having finished second in the South East League, which is the third tier of Welsh domestic football, last season.
Chairman's Praise
Club chairman Dan O'Connell said: "This is a huge moment for Cwmbran Town. Lee isn't just an outstanding footballer, he's a role model and an ambassador for the game. The impact he can have on our younger players, our supporters and the wider club is enormous."
Trundle's experience and leadership are expected to be invaluable as Cwmbran aims for promotion. The club has a proud history and passionate supporters, and Trundle's signing has generated significant excitement.
