Donald Trump's new golf course in Aberdeenshire was placed under lockdown on its opening day after police received reports of a suspicious vehicle. At approximately 3pm, members of the public, staff, and journalists were evacuated from the entrance and moved behind a crash barrier as precautionary checks were carried out.
Police Scotland confirmed that the search of the vehicle found nothing suspicious, and the cordon was lifted. A bomb disposal unit was pictured at the scene, but no explosives were discovered. The lockdown came hours after President Trump cut the ribbon to officially open his second 18-hole course at Trump International near Aberdeen.
Earlier in the day, Trump played a round of golf at the new course alongside former soccer players, golfers, and business leaders. He was scheduled to depart from RAF Lossiemouth back to Washington, DC at 5pm.
The incident occurred on the final day of Trump's five-day trip to Scotland, which combined a private visit with diplomatic engagements. On Monday, he met with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and raised pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Sir Keir has since declared the UK will formally recognise the State of Palestine if Israel does not address the crisis.
Trump also met with Scottish First Minister John Swinney at a private dinner on Monday night and held a formal meeting on Tuesday. During the opening ceremony, Trump did an impression of Sir Sean Connery, recalling the actor's support for the development. He quoted Connery as saying: 'Let the bloody bloke build his golf course.'
