Justin Rose has thrown his support behind Rory McIlroy, backing the Northern Irishman to finally clinch the Masters title and complete his career Grand Slam at Augusta National.
The English golfer, who has come close to winning the prestigious green jacket himself, expressed confidence in McIlroy's ability to conquer the iconic course. "Rory has all the tools to get it done," Rose said. "He's been knocking on the door for years, and I truly believe his time will come."
The Elusive Masters Title
McIlroy, a four-time major champion, has long sought to add the Masters to his collection, which would make him just the sixth player in history to achieve the career Grand Slam. His closest attempt came in 2022, where he finished second behind Scottie Scheffler.
Rose, a former US Open winner, knows the pressure of competing at Augusta. "It's a course that demands patience and precision," he explained. "But Rory's game is perfectly suited for it—his power off the tee and creativity around the greens give him a real edge."
Nick Faldo's Legacy
The discussion also turned to Sir Nick Faldo, the last Englishman to win the Masters back in 1996. Rose acknowledged Faldo's achievements but emphasised that McIlroy's quest is a different challenge altogether. "Every player writes their own story," Rose noted. "Rory’s legacy is already incredible, but that missing piece at Augusta would elevate it even further."
As the golfing world looks ahead to next year's tournament, all eyes will be on McIlroy to see if he can finally break through and cement his place among the game's all-time greats.
