DR Congo midfielder Ngal Ayel Mukau revealed that his team had no specific game plan to nullify Ronaldo, acknowledging that the 41-year-old is firmly in the twilight of his career. Mukau said: "To be honest, not really (a plan) because we know he's not the same as before, he's a bit older now. But still he's one of the greatest to ever play the game so much respect to him."
Diminishing Fear Factor
Mukau's comments lay bare the diminishing fear factor that the former Real Madrid and United icon once commanded. Portugal manager Roberto Martinez now faces mounting scrutiny over his use of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, with the team looking toothless against a side ranked 46th in the FIFA world rankings.
Goalless Streak Continues
Ronaldo's goalless streak in major tournaments has now stretched to 10 World Cup and European Championship fixtures. During that period, he has attempted 33 shots with only 11 on target. France legend Thierry Henry delivered a damning verdict on the 41-year-old, telling FOX Sports: "The team needs to score, not you."
Henry criticised Ronaldo's positioning, saying: "Because he wants to score, he goes in Bruno Fernandes' path. If he went to that small area, the defender would have to follow him, and then it would be an easy goal for Bruno Fernandes."
