Sir Nick Faldo Returns Home After Successful Open-Heart Surgery
Nick Faldo home after preventative heart surgery

Golfing icon Sir Nick Faldo is now recuperating at home after undergoing a major preventative heart operation in the United States. The 68-year-old Englishman spent a fortnight at The Cleveland Clinic, where world-renowned cardiac surgeon Dr Lars Svensson performed the scheduled procedure.

A Preventative Procedure for an Enlarged Aorta

The surgery was a preventative measure to repair an enlarged aorta. Faldo and his wife, Lindsay, shared the positive news of his discharge on his social media account, formerly known as Twitter. The post confirmed the successful operation and their journey home, stating simply: "Home never felt so good."

Focusing on Recovery and Future Plans

Despite the significant surgery, Faldo's sights are firmly set on the future. His immediate plans involve returning to his golf course design work. His Windsor-based organisation has created award-winning courses across 20 countries globally.

He is also looking ahead to Masters Week in Augusta, Georgia. In his post, he referenced 'Six back in '96', a nod to his historic 1996 Masters victory where he overturned a six-shot deficit against Greg Norman in the final round. Faldo is still expected to attend the prestigious tournament this April.

A Legendary Career in Golf

Sir Nick Faldo remains the most successful English golfer of the modern era. His illustrious career boasts:

  • Six major championship victories.
  • Three wins at both The Masters and The Open Championship.
  • A total of 43 professional tournament wins.
  • Induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1997.
  • PGA Player of the Year in 1990.

Since retiring from competitive play, Faldo has been a prominent television pundit, featuring extensively in coverage for Sky Sports and CBS, covering majors and the Ryder Cup. He stepped back from his CBS role in 2022.
