Tom Hardy, the 48-year-old British actor known for his intense performances, has once again found himself at the center of on-set controversy. Reports of clashes with producers on the crime drama Mobland have surfaced, though claims that he was fired have been denied. This is not the first time Hardy has faced such drama; his career is marked by a pattern of feuds, fights, and blowups.
Early Days: Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)
In one of his earliest roles, Hardy played a clone of Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Nemesis. Patrick Stewart later recalled in his memoir that Hardy was reclusive and spent most of his time in his trailer with his girlfriend, rarely engaging with the cast. Hardy attributed this to nerves, saying he was terrified and out of his depth.
Lawless (2012)
Hardy's rising star led to a role in Lawless, where he played the brother of Shia LaBeouf's character. The two reportedly had physical altercations on set, with Hardy joking that LaBeouf knocked him out. LaBeouf described Hardy as a "gorilla on a set" who dominated the space. Director John Hillcoat confirmed they had to be restrained during a fight.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Perhaps the most notorious feud was with co-star Charlize Theron. Theron admitted they "went at it" during filming, feeling threatened by Hardy and frustrated by his lateness. Hardy later acknowledged he was overwhelmed, and Theron said they were both scared, functioning like their survivalist characters.
Mobland (2026)
Recent reports claim Hardy refused to leave his trailer for hours, keeping Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren waiting. He also frequently requested script changes, which screenwriter Jez Butterworth found problematic. However, Mirren has publicly supported Hardy, posting a photo with a loving message. Despite the difficulties, sources note that Hardy's talent as a movie star often outweighs his difficult behavior.
