Sir Nick Faldo Returns Home After Successful Open-Heart Surgery in US
Nick Faldo Home After Heart Surgery at Cleveland Clinic

Golfing icon Sir Nick Faldo is back home in the UK following a successful and scheduled preventative open-heart surgery in the United States.

A Preventative Procedure in Cleveland

The 68-year-old spent two weeks at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, where cardiac surgeon Dr Lars Svensson performed the operation to repair his enlarged aorta. The procedure, described as preventative, was planned in advance.

News of his recovery was shared via his official social media account on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday 16 January 2026. The post simply stated, "Headed home," before a longer message confirmed the details.

Recovery and Looking to the Future

"After two weeks in Cleveland, Nick Faldo, and his wife, Lindsay, are on their way home following a successful, scheduled preventative open-heart surgery," the statement read. It added that Faldo is now focused on his recuperation and future plans.

His immediate goals include returning to his golf course design work and, poignantly, being ready for Masters Week in Augusta, Georgia. This year marks the 30th anniversary of his famous 1996 victory over Greg Norman, an event he plans to celebrate under the theme 'Six back in '96'.

A Legendary Career

Sir Nick Faldo is one of the most successful golfers in history, with a career that includes:

  • Six major championship victories (three Masters and three Open Championships).
  • A dominant 1996 Masters win, his final major title.
  • 97 weeks ranked as world number one.
  • More major titles than any other European golfer in the modern era.

His return home marks a positive step in his health journey, with the golf legend now setting his sights on both personal projects and commemorating one of his greatest sporting triumphs.
