Gary Neville and Ian Wright were in firm disagreement as they analysed the attacking options available to Arsenal and Chelsea before the two sides met in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Both teams were aiming to maintain their perfect starts to the campaign, with Arsenal having beaten Coventry City and Aston Villa, while Chelsea defeated Fulham and Brighton in their opening two matches.
Neville's Swap Claim
Speaking on Sky Sports' broadcast of the encounter, Neville suggested that he believes Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would prefer Chelsea's attacking players over those he currently has at his disposal. "If you say to Mikel Arteta: 'Would you swap your forward line for Chelsea's?' He would swap," Neville claimed.
"He'd put [Morgan] Rogers, Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro up there in front of [Bukayo] Saka, [Kai] Havertz and [Ebere] Eze, he would. So it's not the strongest part of Arsenal's team, but what he's done in defence and in midfield has become that good."
Neville added: "If you don't concede goals, you've got a great chance of winning nearly every single match. If you're conceding goals, you're going to lose more points."
Wright's Rebuttal
Wright, however, rejected Neville's perspective, with the Arsenal icon responding: "I'm not having that over Saka, Havertz and Eze. I'm not having that."
Neville then responded by asking: "You don't think he'd [Arteta] pick Rogers, Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro over those three [Havertz, Saka and Eze], Ian?" Wright replied: "Not for me, no." Neville concluded the debate by shaking his head and saying: "Oh dear."
Summer Transfer Moves
Arsenal bolstered their attacking options this summer by securing the signature of Christos Tzolis, yet sanctioned the exits of Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus. Chelsea have equally strengthened their forward ranks, with Rogers being joined by Geovany Quenda, Danny Welbeck, Emmanuel Emegha and Dastan Satpaev in completing moves to Stamford Bridge ahead of this week's deadline.
