The Chase star Darragh Ennis has offered a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the popular ITV quiz show, revealing that host Bradley Walsh 'doesn't put up with any nonsense' and is a 'genuinely lovely guy'.
No Dirt on Brad
Speaking on the Digg YouTube channel earlier this year, Ennis, 46, who joined The Chase as 'The Menace' in 2020 after first appearing as a contestant in 2017, was asked what the 66-year-old presenter is really like when the cameras stop rolling.
Ennis said: "There's never been an instance, not just in the show, but in any room that Brad is in, that he isn't the centre of the room."
He added: "He has a level of, not just natural charm, not even when it's a show, if it's like at an awards thing or if we, sometimes, we have like a Christmas party, he walks in, everybody just comes alive."
Genuinely Funny and Lovely
Ennis praised Walsh's humour, saying: "He is genuinely funny. A lot of comedians aren't. A lot of comedians have to, like, do their material to be funny. He's genuinely funny. He's a lovely, lovely man. I'd love to give you dirt, I really would, but there isn't any. There's no dirt on Brad. He is a genuinely lovely guy."
He also described the atmosphere on the show, noting: "And the atmosphere on our show is very much, [he] wouldn't tolerate anybody being mean or nasty, and that is led mainly from the producers, but Brad is very much on board with that. He doesn't put up with any of that nonsense at all. He's a lovely guy."
A Cheeky Streak
Ennis also revealed that Walsh has a playful side, comparing him to a mischievous schoolchild: "Remember when you were in school and there was always one kid who was in trouble all the time? But it was never for doing bad things, it was just for messing about. That's Brad. If you put another 40 or 50 [years] onto that child, that's Brad."
Beyond this, Ennis highlighted Walsh's dedication to his role, saying: "He loves doing the show, but the other thing is we all look at him and he's funny and everything. You should see how good he is at that job."
Walsh, who has fronted The Chase since its debut in 2009, is back on British television with Bradley Walsh's Million Pound Shot tonight (November 1) at 9pm on Channel 4.
