Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica have reconciled, with the golfer voluntarily dismissing divorce proceedings filed in a Florida court last month. The news emerged on Tuesday, just days before the US Open at Pinehurst, where McIlroy is competing.
McIlroy, who looked notably upbeat during his pre-tournament press conference, addressed the speculation surrounding his personal life. He stated that he and Erica had resolved their differences and realised their best future was as a family together.
The world No. 2 had filed for divorce in the buildup to the US PGA Championship, but court papers now confirm the case has been dismissed at the behest of both parties. McIlroy described the rumours as unfortunate but declined to engage with them.
McIlroy is seeking his first major victory since 2014. He expressed confidence in his form, saying he feels as close as ever to securing a fifth major title. He will play alongside Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele in the opening rounds.
