Marcos Senesi: When Tottenham Fans Can First See Summer Signing
Marcos Senesi: Tottenham Fans' First Glimpse of New Signing

It has been a whirlwind week for Tottenham Hotspur's new centre-back Marcos Senesi.

Official Announcement

On Wednesday, the 29-year-old's move to Spurs was officially announced, following a medical completed earlier this month. The transfer will become official on July 1, when Senesi departs Bournemouth as a free agent.

International Call-Up

Senesi has been on holiday with his partner this week, but that came to an abrupt halt after a phone call from Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni. An injury to Marseille's Leonardo Balerdi opened up a space in Argentina's World Cup squad, and Senesi was called up as a last-minute replacement.

Senesi has rushed to join his international teammates in Kansas City, where Argentina are based for the tournament at the Sporting KC Training Centre. He will have a few days to push his case for involvement in Argentina's World Cup opener against Algeria on June 17.

First Glimpse for Spurs Fans

That will be the first opportunity for Spurs fans to potentially watch their latest signing get some minutes on the biggest stage in football. However, Senesi faces a battle to get on the pitch. Lisandro Martinez, Nicolas Otamendi, and Cristian Romero are competing to start, with Facundo Medina offering further cover.

After facing Algeria, Argentina will take on Austria and Jordan in Group J at the World Cup. If the holders progress all the way to the final, Senesi will be at the tournament until July 19, just a week before Spurs begin their pre-season tour of New Zealand against Auckland FC.

International Experience

Senesi has been capped three times for Argentina, with the first of those coming in 2022 against Estonia. He was named in Scaloni's initial 55-man squad for the World Cup before being cut when the selections were finalized. However, Balerdi's misfortune has opened up an opportunity for Senesi to play his part in Argentina's bid to go back-to-back and defend their status as world champions.
