Justin Rose produced a sensational finish at the FedEx St Jude Championship on Sunday, winning a playoff against US Open champion JJ Spaun with six birdies in his final eight holes. The 45-year-old Englishman became the oldest European to win on the PGA Tour in the modern era.
Rose looked out of contention after a bogey at the 12th dropped him to 12 under, two off the pace. However, four birdies from the 14th catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard, and he narrowly missed a 13-foot putt at the last to win outright.
In the playoff, Rose holed a 14-foot birdie on the third extra hole after Spaun missed from seven feet. Earlier, Spaun had forced the playoff with a monster birdie putt on the second playoff hole. Rose said: 'That was an amazing last 90 minutes. I never stopped believing.'
Tommy Fleetwood suffered more heartbreak, failing to end his wait for a PGA Tour victory at the 162nd attempt. He led by two with three holes to play but bogeyed the 17th and failed to birdie the last. Scottie Scheffler finished one shot outside the playoff.
