Erling Haaland Creates Norway Friction Ahead of England World Cup Clash
Haaland Creates Norway Friction Before England Showdown

Erling Haaland's exceptional form has created tension within the Norway squad as they prepare for a World Cup quarter-final against England. The Manchester City striker's goal-scoring prowess has forced teammate Alexander Sorloth to play out of position, leading to frustration.

Haaland's Impact Forces Tactical Changes

Haaland, 25, has been the driving force behind Norway's historic World Cup run, scoring a brace in the 2-1 victory over Brazil in the round of 16. However, his presence has required tactical accommodations that have left fellow striker Alexander Sorloth 'irritated,' according to Sorloth's father, Goran Sorloth.

Goran Sorloth, a former Norway international, told Dagbladet: "He gets irritated about being taken off, he should be every day all year round. Regardless of whether it's the World Cup, the European Championship or a regular international match."

Alexander Sorloth, who plays for Atletico Madrid and had a stint at Crystal Palace (20 appearances, one goal), has been deployed out wide to accommodate Haaland. He was substituted at half-time in the Brazil match for Fulham's Oscar Bobb, a decision that sparked his frustration.

No Ill-Feeling Despite Frustration

Despite the irritation, Goran Sorloth emphasized that there is no lasting animosity between his son and manager Stale Solbakken. "I don't think there was a heated discussion with Stale Solbakken. They know each other so well that there was talk of exchanging things and things. They are still the best friends in the world. Together they believe that they can go far," he said.

Norway's unprecedented run has put them within 90 minutes of a semi-final, with England standing in their way. The match is scheduled for July 22 at 10 pm kick-off in Miami, Florida. England advanced by beating Mexico 3-2 at the Azteca Stadium.

Haaland in Golden Boot Race

Haaland is in contention for the Golden Boot, trailing Lionel Messi by one goal. Messi inspired Argentina to a 3-2 comeback victory over Egypt with a goal and an assist. Norway's arrival in Miami has been described as a 'boys' trip' by Sorloth, but illness threatens to disrupt their preparations.

Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland revealed to James Corden: "I can confirm that it's true, we've had our issues, we're doing the best we can and the team doctor is very busy at the moment. I have no idea what the source was, we did have some time off so maybe someone contracted something. Hopefully everything goes well and we face England with a fully rested squad on Saturday."

Norwegian outlet Dagbladet reported that exhaustion and illness have swept through the camp. However, the team doctor downplayed concerns, saying: "Very little fuss considering that we have been close together for almost six weeks. So great that they believe this. We are in control."
