Gabby Agbonlahor, a former team-mate of Jack Grealish, has cast doubt over whether the Everton loan star will remain in the Premier League next season.
Grealish proved a big hit after signing for the Blues from Manchester City. He scored two late match-winning goals and contributed six assists before sustaining a stress fracture in his foot in the superb 1-0 success at his former club Aston Villa in January.
That ruled the 30-year-old out for the rest of the 2025-26 campaign and while Everton initially coped without him, taking 15 points from the following 10 games to move within touching distance of the Champions League, his influence was badly missed in the winless run-in.
Grealish remained on Merseyside, continuing his recovery at Finch Farm, but after his season-long loan officially ended on June 30, he is now back at City, where he is moving closer to a full return to training.
New Manager at City
The England international is now working with a new manager at the Etihad - but it's a manager he knows well. Enzo Maresca was previously assistant to Pep Guardiola but after spells in charge of Leicester City and Chelsea, the Italian has now taken over the top City job after the departure of the legendary Spaniard.
There have been reports that Maresca will be willing to give Grealish a chance to revive his club career on the sky blue half of Manchester. But Gabby Agbonlahor does not see him staying at City - or potentially in England.
The former England international, who played alongside Grealish at Villa, speaking on talkSPORT, said: "It will be interesting to see what happens with Jack, if he's given a chance by Maresca.
"He would have been part of that Man City squad that Maresca was at. Or, will the manager think: 'No', and will Jack think: 'Do you know what? Maybe I want to move on'.
"I think it's still early doors, I think we have to see what happens over the next six weeks, there's still six weeks left of the transfer window... (but) I don't see him staying there, I see him moving on.
"It wouldn't surprise me if he moves somewhere else in Europe, I don't see him staying in the Premier League.
"I think he's still got one year left on his contract, the wages as well, will that be a problem for some clubs maybe in the Premier League?
"But don't rule out maybe going back to Everton, David Moyes loved him."
That feeling was clearly mutual with Grealish saying after his winner at Bournemouth in December: "I love the manager to pieces. I've only known him a few months and I can't speak highly enough of him as a person, how he makes me feel and how me makes me want to go and play for him. So credit to him."
Potential Return to Everton
The Blues are understood to be open to securing the playmaker's return. But first Grealish needs to get back fit before any negotiations with City, who are said to prefer a permanent exit rather than another loan, take place.
Sharing images of himself doing fitness work back at his parent club this week, Grealish wrote on social media: "Nice to see everyone, am nearly there! Hopefully not long now till back training for good."
