The six-time major winner made the journey to The Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, USA, a facility renowned for its cardiac care. He sought treatment after discovering he had an enlarged aorta, a condition requiring surgical intervention to prevent serious complications.
A statement released on Faldo's social media confirmed the open-heart surgery was "successful" and "scheduled" as a preventative measure. The operation was performed by the clinic's esteemed cardiac surgeon, Dr Lars Svensson.
Recovery and Return to Golfing Life
After a two-week stay in Cleveland, Sir Nick and his wife, Lindsay, are now "on their way home". The statement expressed his relief, noting, "Home never felt so good."
Looking ahead, the three-time Masters champion is focused on his recovery and return to work. His immediate plans include resuming his golf course design projects and, poignantly, attending the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, this April. His visit will mark the anniversary of his famous 1996 Masters victory, an event he references as "'Six back in '96'".
