England Player Ratings vs Panama: Bellingham Shines in 2-0 Win to Top Group
England Player Ratings vs Panama: Bellingham Stars in 2-0 Win

Jude Bellingham scored one goal and set up another as England defeated Panama 2-0 to secure top spot in their World Cup group, advancing to the knockout stages. The victory, achieved at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, was not a flawless performance but sufficient to claim what appears to be a more favourable path to the final next month.

First-half struggles continue for England

After a lacklustre display against Ghana, Thomas Tuchel's side needed a strong response but endured another goalless first half. Panama's defence held firm, with England's best chances coming from a tame Bukayo Saka strike and a Marcus Rashford header. The Three Lions struggled to break down a well-organised Panamanian backline, echoing their sluggish start in the previous group match against Croatia.

England's set-piece prowess proved decisive once again in the second half. Saka's whipped cross found Bellingham in the penalty area, and the midfielder's outstretched leg directed the ball into the net to break the deadlock. Minutes later, Bellingham turned provider, crossing for Harry Kane to head home England's second goal and seal the win.

Player ratings: Bellingham and Kane lead the way

Jordan Pickford - 5: The goalkeeper had no saves to make but repeatedly gave away possession by hoofing the ball long under no pressure, a recurring issue.

Jarell Quansah - 6: Drafted into the starting XI after an injury to Reece James, the 22-year-old was substituted off with a suspected injury, posing a potential headache for Tuchel ahead of the knockout rounds.

Marc Guehi - 6: Looked occasionally uncomfortable in an ultra-aggressive high line, as Panama did get in behind at times. However, he contributed defensively and has now registered back-to-back clean sheets.

Ezri Konsa - 6: One of the few players to feature in all three group matches, the Aston Villa defender looked fallible at times but was not seriously tested with his back against the wall.

Nico O'Reilly - 6: Solid if unspectacular performance from the left-back.

Elliot Anderson - 7: Tasked with manning midfield alone as Declan Rice was not risked from the start, the soon-to-be Manchester City star held his own and swept up danger effectively.

Jude Bellingham - 8: The standout performer, popping up in the right place to break the deadlock with an extended leg and then providing the cross for Kane's header. England's No.10 continues to deliver when the team needs magic.

Morgan Rogers - 6: Brought in to inject creativity but struggled to get on the ball in the first half, and that carried over into the second period.

Bukayo Saka - 7: Made his first start of the tournament and looked the most lively among England's forwards, though the end product was not quite there.

Harry Kane - 8: Unusually quiet first half, raising questions about a possible curse, but the Bayern Munich man nodded home his third goal of the tournament in the second half.

Marcus Rashford - 6: Started amid clamour from fans but flattered to deceive. Came close with a header but his touch was off in the second half.

Substitutes make little impact

Noni Madueke - 6, Djed Spence - 6, Eberechi Eze - 6, Jordan Henderson - 6, and Ollie Watkins - 6 all entered the fray but failed to make a significant impression. Watkins, brought on to keep Kane's legs fresh, did not have a sight of goal.

Injury concern for Quansah

Jarell Quansah's suspected injury is a worry for Tuchel, who may be forced to reshuffle his defence for the round of 16. England will now await their opponent as they prepare for the next stage of the tournament.
