Bryson DeChambeau's hopes of Open Championship glory were dashed in brutal fashion as the big-hitting American failed to make the weekend at Royal Troon.
DeChambeau's Open Disaster
The 2020 US Open champion carded rounds of 72 and 74 to finish at +4, two shots outside the cut line in what marks his worst performance in golf's oldest major since 2017.
"It's disappointing," admitted DeChambeau. "I felt like I was playing well coming in but couldn't get anything going out there."
What Went Wrong?
DeChambeau's normally reliable driver betrayed him at Troon, finding just 57% of fairways. His putter went equally cold, needing 62 strokes on the greens across two days.
- Ranked 112th in driving accuracy
- Lost 3.2 strokes to the field putting
- Failed to birdie any par-5s in second round
Fans Left Stunned
The early exit comes as a shock after DeChambeau's recent PGA Championship heroics where he finished runner-up to Xander Schauffele. Many had tipped him as a genuine contender at Troon following his strong LIV Golf form.
"I don't think anyone saw this coming," said Sky Sports analyst Paul McGinley. "Bryson's been one of the form players in world golf. This will hurt."
Looking Ahead
DeChambeau now faces an anxious wait to see if he'll qualify for next month's Olympics. The 30-year-old remains hopeful of representing Team USA in Paris.
"I'll regroup and come back stronger," DeChambeau vowed. "There's still big events ahead this season."
