De Zerbi's Two Clear Targets After Tottenham Fixtures Confirmed
De Zerbi's Two Targets After Spurs Fixtures

Roberto De Zerbi has two clear targets after Tottenham's 2026/27 Premier League fixtures were confirmed on Friday morning. The new manager must maintain momentum after avoiding relegation last season.

Challenging Winter Period

Tottenham face a difficult winter period, with matches against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City between December and January. They also host Bournemouth and Brighton, both of whom qualified for Europe last season. The north London club are looking to build a new era under De Zerbi after successive 17th-place finishes.

Spurs kick off their campaign away to Brentford on August 22 at 5:30pm. After that, they host Newcastle before a trip to Nottingham Forest, where they were comprehensively beaten 3-0 last season. De Zerbi's side then host Aston Villa, travel to Manchester United and Chelsea, and welcome newly promoted Coventry City to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Building Momentum

There appears little opportunity for Spurs to build early momentum, but they will count November and January among their more favourable months on paper. However, they famously went without a league win until April after the turn of the year last season, as they were sucked into a relegation battle.

The north London derby fixtures are currently scheduled for December 5 and May 1, though these dates are subject to change due to TV scheduling. Spurs host Arsenal first before travelling to the Emirates with five games to go. They face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on October 24 and host Xabi Alonso's side on May 8, a week after the derby.

Tricky Run-In

Spurs will hope to be fighting for Europe come the end of the season, but their final five fixtures include Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Aston Villa, making for a tricky run-in. Determined to learn from the mistakes of last season, Spurs have been aggressive in the transfer market to rebuild their squad in De Zerbi's image.

They sealed their third signing of the window on Thursday, announcing the arrival of Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke for £52 million. They are confident of making a push towards the European places despite last season's struggles.
