Well-known faces from sport, television, and social media came together to raise money for a five-year-old boy with childhood dementia in need of life-changing therapy treatment in America. A charity match was held at Pontardawe Football Club on Sunday in aid of Tate Flaherty, from Swansea, who was diagnosed with Sanfilippo Syndrome Type A – a rare, genetic, and terminal condition often called childhood dementia.
His mum, Tammy McDaid, is trying to raise between £1.5m and £2.95m to get her son to America for recently-approved breakthrough gene therapy, called UX111, which would stop his condition progressing.
Legends and local stars take part
The Kicking It 4 Tate game saw Swansea City legends Lee Trundle and Alan Tate put on their boots to help out. Callum Macleod and Josh Navidi were also on hand.
Speaking about why they got involved, Callum said: "We've both recently become fathers so we can really relate to what the family must be going through so anything we can do to be involved and to raise some money and awareness. We're local boys from Wales and we just want to be here and get involved for everyone."
Tate watches on in number one shirt
Tate was there himself and watched on as the game was contested, wearing a shirt with the number one at the back.
