Ayr United's Premier Sports Cup win over Edinburgh City has been upgraded to a 3-0 victory after the visitors fielded an ineligible player.
The Honest Men had won Saturday's Group G tie 2-0 thanks to second half goals from Owen Stirton and Kenzie Mitchell.
But SPFL bosses today confirmed that a rules breach by the League Two side meant Ayr's win would now be recorded as a 3-0 scoreline.
Sanctions Imposed
A statement read: "Edinburgh City FC have been sanctioned by the SPFL for fielding an ineligible player in their Premier Sports Cup Group G fixture against Ayr United on Saturday July 18, which Ayr United won 2-0."
The following sanctions will apply:
- The Club was reprimanded and warned as to its future conduct;
- Edinburgh City’s Premier Sports Cup match v Ayr United will be recorded as a 3-0 victory for Ayr United and the Group G table updated accordingly;
- A fine of £1,250, of which £750 is suspended until 1 August 2027 pending any further breaches of SPFL Player Regulations.
Group G Leaders
United have already qualified as Group G winners after notching nine points from their first three games under new boss Gary Naysmith and will bid to make the last 16 as a seed when they welcome Alloa to Somerset Park this Saturday.
