The summer transfer window is entering its final month, with Arsenal finalising a deal for Bruno Guimaraes as Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham also look to secure huge signings. The long-running Guimaraes saga is almost at an end, with multiple outlets including the Sunday Times reporting that an agreement between the two clubs worth around £80m is on the verge of being sealed.
Guimaraes is expected to undergo a medical today, rather than begin pre-season training with Newcastle in La Manga after an extended post-World Cup break, as was previously planned. Newcastle are weighing up Inter Milan midfielder Petar Sucic as a replacement. While Newcastle sources have repeatedly insisted that no club-to-club talks have taken place and that they have received no official approach, the Gunners have largely been dealing with intermediaries. Standard Sport have revealed that progress has now been made in the attempts to find an agreement, and there is growing optimism from Arsenal's side that a deal will be done.
Vinicius Jr and Ferran Torres
Arsenal were also said to have made a breakthrough with Vinicius Jr, whom Jose Mourinho expects back for Real Madrid training on Monday. The 26-year-old Brazil international has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, and it has been widely reported that his preference is to stay in the Spanish capital. However, Real Madrid do not want to risk letting Vinicius Jr walk away for free next summer, so an agreement over a new deal must be reached, otherwise a switch to Arsenal becomes a possibility.
The Gunners are also now being linked with World Cup final match-winner Ferran Torres.
Manchester United's double pursuit
Manchester United are edging closer to signing Lewis Hall, who has reportedly rejected a return to Chelsea. The Red Devils are also pursuing a shock deal for Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly, whose future could be impacted by Guimaraes' arrival at the Emirates.
United are also closing in on their fifth deal of the summer, with reports from Spain indicating an agreement is near with Celta Vigo for out-of-favour goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. Faro de Vigo claim that Celta hope to secure a loan deal in the coming days as Claudio Giraldez wants the 28-year-old to compete with Andrei Radu as the first-choice stopper next season. Bayindir, who joined the Red Devils from Fenerbahce in September 2023, has less than a year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, though United have the option to trigger a 12-month extension. However, Spanish publication AS state there is very little chance of United receiving a fee from Celta, while Bayindir would have to reduce his wages to join permanently. According to AS, the 28-year-old will be expected to undergo a medical on either Sunday or Monday.
Chelsea's continued business
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Argentinian international Valentin Barco from Strasbourg. Barco was part of the Argentina squad that finished runners-up to Spain at the World Cup 2026, making just one appearance all tournament as a substitute in the final Group J fixture against Jordan. Despite not featuring in the semi-final win over England, the 22-year-old made headlines following an incident involving Jude Bellingham at full-time. Amid Argentina's post-match celebrations, clips soon circulated of Bellingham hitting Barco seemingly without provocation on the back of the head, prompting an angry response. New footage appears to suggest where Bellingham's motive came from. The pair exchanged words before team-mates from both sides stepped in to prevent the confrontation from escalating further.
The Blues are also making progress over Pep Chavarria after signing Barco, and are still eyeing Alex Scott amid shock exit links surrounding Joao Pedro. Lewis Hall has reportedly rejected a return to Chelsea.
Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City
Liverpool are preparing a new move for Bradley Barcola, while they could sell Tottenham target Cody Gakpo. Tottenham are said to have made a surprise approach for Victor Osimhen.
Manchester City are lining up a deal for Pedro Neto, while Atletico Madrid are targeting Jack Grealish.
Newcastle's goalkeeper signing
Newcastle have triggered a £25.7 million release clause to sign goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek as their fifth summer signing. According to reports, the highly-rated goalkeeper has already completed his medical in Spain, having travelled to La Manga to finalise his move from Sporting Braga.
