Wrexham's record £7.5 million move for Ipswich Town winger Nathan Broadhead is at risk of collapse, prompting the club to consider alternative targets. The Welsh side, co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have already spent heavily this summer following their promotion to the Championship, but manager Phil Parkinson admits more signings are needed.
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna confirmed Broadhead has expressed a desire to leave, but insisted the club will not sanction a sale unless they strengthen their own attacking options. 'It's not the right time or even a possible time for us to allow a good player to leave,' McKenna said, adding that Broadhead remains in his plans for the upcoming Championship opener.
According to reports, Wrexham have identified Barnsley forward Davis Keillor-Dunn as a potential replacement. The 27-year-old scored 18 goals and provided five assists in League One last season, and previously played for Wrexham in the National League in 2020. The Barnsley Chronicle suggests he could be available for around £5 million, offering a more budget-friendly option.
Parkinson acknowledged the club's transfer activity is not yet complete. 'We have made quite a few signings but we still feel we need to add in a few areas,' he told The Leader. 'Sometimes patience is a virtue with these things.' Wrexham have already broken their transfer record twice this window, and a deal for Broadhead would make it a third time.
