Nick Woltemade has been voted Juventus' player of the month for October, and Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has not ruled out the striker returning to Tyneside once his loan spell with the Serie A club ends.
The Germany international joined Juventus on a straight loan from Newcastle in the summer transfer window, with the Magpies receiving a loan facility fee of £3m from the £69m paid to Stuttgart for the 2026/27 season. Woltemade does not have a recall clause in his contract, and Juventus have no obligation to buy the centre-forward at the end of the campaign, although they remain in a strong position to discuss a future deal.
Award after Napoli win
Woltemade helped Juventus to a 2-0 victory over Napoli, playing in a front two for Luciano Spalletti's side. While he did not score, he was credited for his hold-up play as he was used to relieve pressure at the top of the pitch. He has not scored in Serie A so far but has three goals and one assist for his loan club in the Europa League.
After the match, Woltemade was presented with the October MVP award, voted for by Juventus club members, on the back of his performances in Europe.
Jaissle explains loan decision
With Newcastle looking short of strikers, Jaissle explained to German magazine Kicker why he had opted to let Woltemade go out on loan, describing it as a tactical decision. He said: "We communicated very clearly where he stood within the team at that moment, particularly considering the way we play football with high pressing. At the time, one or two other players were simply a little ahead of him."
He added: "Open discussions are important regardless of whether someone is your compatriot or not. But I rate him very highly, and of course he remains our player because he's only out on loan."
Woltemade eyes Europa League form
Speaking on his role at Juventus last month, Woltemade said: "I can certainly play as a number 10 behind the striker, moving around the striker as I did at Stuttgart. I hope to replicate that season at Stuttgart where I scored 17 goals and won the German Cup. I'd love to achieve that here too. I'm really happy to be in a team like Juventus. A lot of control, a lot of time on the ball and, in these situations, the best things come out of me."
After playing his part in the victory over Napoli, Woltemade now hopes to continue his Europa League form in Thursday night's fixture at AZ Alkmaar.
