VAR Delay Sparks Outrage in Everton vs Man United Clash

Fans expressed fury during Everton's Premier League match against Manchester United after a VAR review took over three minutes to confirm Beto's opening goal. The delay, which lasted three minutes and ten seconds, occurred despite the goal appearing clearly onside to the naked eye.

The controversy arose when Beto, played through by Abdoulaye Doucoure, scored from close range to put Everton 1-0 up. However, the VAR team deliberated whether the striker had been in an offside position while standing in front of United goalkeeper Andre Onana during a corner moments earlier, potentially blocking his view.

Supporters took to social media to criticise the lengthy check. One fan wrote on X: '3 minutes to check a goal…. VAR not for me.' Another questioned: 'Not sure why VAR took so long to give what was a clear goal.' A third added: 'Shocking defending, but why did it take VAR three minutes to rule on the goal?'

Despite the VAR delay, Everton doubled their lead shortly after. Beto set up Jack Harrison, whose shot looped into the air and fell for Doucoure to tap in. Beto has now scored more Premier League goals than any other player in February.
