Igor Tudor '100 Percent' Confident Tottenham Will Avoid Premier League Relegation
Newly appointed Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Igor Tudor has declared he is "100 percent" certain the club will remain in the Premier League next season, despite their current precarious position in the league table.
Spurs' Dire Situation and Tudor's Appointment
Tottenham find themselves languishing in 16th place in the Premier League, a mere five points above the relegation zone. This alarming standing comes ahead of a critical north London derby against league leaders Arsenal this Sunday. The club announced Tudor as their interim head coach last Saturday, following the dismissal of Thomas Frank after a dismal run of just two wins in 17 Premier League matches.
When directly questioned about his confidence level regarding Tottenham's top-flight status for the upcoming season, Tudor was unequivocal in his response. "One hundred percent," he insisted. "I'm not here to enjoy it, I'm here to work. Enjoy is the first moment, and then there's work to do. It's a fantastic club. I am very focused to do the right things."
Tudor's Proven Track Record in Short-Term Roles
The Croatian manager brings a reputation for succeeding in interim positions. Most notably, he guided Juventus to Champions League qualification last season after taking over following the sacking of Thiago Motta. Similarly, two years ago at Lazio, he assumed control with nine games remaining in the season, winning five of those matches and elevating the club from ninth to seventh place in the final standings.
When pressed on the secret behind his ability to make an immediate impact, Tudor remained modest. "I don't know. I do my job. Nothing special," he stated. "I do things that I believe are important. You need to resolve the problems - there are problems even in the biggest clubs."
Significant Injury Crisis and Backroom Staff
Tudor faces an immediate and severe challenge with a depleted squad. Tottenham are set to be without at least 11 players due to a combination of injuries and suspensions for the crucial derby match. "As you know this is a very rare situation that you find with 10 players injured, with big injuries also," Tudor acknowledged. "We made training with 13 (outfield) players. It is how it is. It is not fantastic, beautiful but in this case it's an even bigger challenge to succeed. Thirteen we will have for sure and it's quite enough to achieve what we want on Sunday."
To support his efforts, Tudor has assembled a backroom team that includes former Brighton coach Bruno Saltor, alongside Riccardo Ragnacci and Tomislav Rogic. Andreas Georgson has been retained in his role as set-piece coach.
Focus on Team Unity and Squad Quality
Despite the injury crisis and poor recent form, Tudor expressed strong belief in the inherent quality within the Tottenham squad. "This is a team that is full of quality," he asserted. "I believe full of talented players, with good motor engines. I like to say the legs who can run, you know, so there is plenty of potential."
For his first match in charge, the 47-year-old manager has emphasized the importance of forging a unified team mentality. "The first goal of course I understand the importance of this game. This is a derby, a north London derby. Everybody expects the three points from us. We are aware of this, but what was my goal in this first sessions we made is that we became a team," Tudor explained. "That we became a team with a really right way of going to war, a team who want to suffer, we need to suffer. To fight, to run, to have the right mentality, also, this is the start."
Leadership and Clear Communication
Tudor confirmed that suspended defender Cristian Romero will retain the club captaincy, though he declined to reveal who would wear the armband in Romero's absence on Sunday. The manager has engaged in extensive discussions with the team's leadership group to outline his expectations clearly.
"You need to speak about these values but also about concrete things on the pitch and what you want because the players need and they want to have clarity about what we want," Tudor said. "This was a goal to send two messages about people, about men, about values and about what we want to play, so these two things together working."
With Tottenham's Premier League survival at stake, Igor Tudor's unwavering confidence and proven interim record will be put to the ultimate test starting with this weekend's high-pressure derby clash.
