Thomas Tuchel has expressed confidence that Mason Mount can succeed at Manchester United, amid speculation the German could replace under-fire Erik ten Hag. The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with club chiefs reportedly set to hold a crisis summit over Ten Hag's position.
Tuchel previously managed Mount at Chelsea, where the midfielder thrived under his guidance. Speaking during his time at Stamford Bridge, Tuchel praised Mount's attitude and mentality, saying: "It's not a statistic which guarantees you to start... having Mason brings a certain attitude and an aura and a mentality on the field. It is very hard to drop him because even if he has a not so good game, you'll always get full energy and positivity."
The German coach also highlighted Mount's character and work ethic: "He has the full package, mentally, in terms of talent and physically... the most important part is his character, he has his feet on the ground and he’s a nice guy. He comes to Cobham every day to learn something new... He has big self confidence in a very, very positive way."
Mount made 87 appearances under Tuchel, scoring 19 goals, and helped Chelsea win the Champions League. However, since his £55m move to Manchester United, the 26-year-old has struggled, making only 25 appearances and scoring once. A reunion with Tuchel could provide the spark needed to revive his form.
