New Tottenham Hotspur manager Igor Tudor has openly admitted that he has not enjoyed his initial days in charge, stating he is "here to work" rather than for pleasure. The Croatian boss, appointed to steady the ship at the north London club, made these remarks as he prepares for his first game in charge this Sunday.
A Focus on Results Over Enjoyment
Tudor emphasized his laser focus on achieving results from now until the end of the season, underlining that his priority is to address the club's current struggles. He said, "I didn't enjoy (my first days) because I'm not here to enjoy. I'm here to work. It's the first moment and there's a lot of work to do. It's a privilege to be here."
Challenges at Tottenham
The atmosphere at Tottenham had become increasingly volatile in the final weeks of Thomas Frank's tenure before his dismissal. Frank struggled for wins at home, leading to numerous matches ending with jeers from the crowd. Tudor, though only a short-term appointment, faces the urgent task of restoring calm and swiftly improving results.
A run of just one win in 11 games has seen Tottenham spiral down the Premier League table, leaving them just five points above the relegation zone. This represents another season of struggle for the club, but Tudor has maintained confidence, asserting he is 100% sure Tottenham will be a Premier League club next season.
Tudor's Track Record and Approach
Tudor's last managerial position ended in October when he was dismissed by Juventus after just 24 games. Prior to that, the Croatian, who won the Champions League as a player, had a good track record of making an immediate impact in new roles. He will need to replicate this at Tottenham to turn their fortunes around.
When asked how he achieves quick results, Tudor offered little insight, saying, "I don't know. I do my job, nothing special. I do the things I believe are important. Nothing more, nothing less. Each coach has his own style to achieve results. I have my style which I believe is the best."
Adapting to Different Clubs
He explained that his approach varies depending on the club's characteristics and culture. "It's never the same because there are always different characteristics, different clubs, and different cultures. Some clubs like this kind of football, some like that. You need to resolve the problems. Everywhere there are problems, even at the best clubs in the world, just like in the third division. It's all about how you resolve the problems in a very quick time. Not easy, but it's okay."
Upcoming Fixtures
Tudor's tenure begins with a challenging north London derby against Arsenal this Sunday. Following that, Tottenham will make a short trip across London to face Fulham. Before the next international break, they are also scheduled to take on Crystal Palace, Liverpool, and Nottingham Forest, presenting a tough run of matches that will test Tudor's ability to deliver immediate improvements.
The new boss's pragmatic attitude and focus on problem-solving will be crucial as he navigates these fixtures and aims to lift Tottenham out of their current slump. Fans and pundits alike will be watching closely to see if he can bring the quick turnaround the club desperately needs.
