The January transfer window has closed for Premier League and EFL clubs, but a number of high-profile free agents remain available for signing. Among them are Raheem Sterling, Jesse Lingard and James Rodriguez, who are all without a club after recent contract terminations or departures.
Raheem Sterling terminated his contract with Chelsea by mutual consent days before the deadline. The 31-year-old winger, a four-time Premier League winner, is now a free agent and could be a smart signing for any team given his homegrown status and reduced wage demands. However, clubs must register their squad by 5 February.
Defender Kurt Zouma also became a free agent after his contract with Romanian side CFR Cluj was terminated in January. The 31-year-old former Chelsea and West Ham captain could provide defensive cover. Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard is without a club after leaving South Korean side FC Seoul in December, with rumours of a Premier League return persisting.
Liverpool academy graduate Ryan Kent, 29, is also unattached after his stint with Seattle Sounders. He has been linked with a return to Scotland. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been without a club since leaving Besiktas in August 2025 and has been training with former side Arsenal, with Celtic reportedly interested.
Other notable free agents include Aaron Ramsey, 35, who last played for Mexican club Pumas and is seeking playing time ahead of Wales's World Cup play-off. James Rodriguez, 34, is looking for minutes before the World Cup and is likely to join a North or South American club. Former Tottenham defender Serge Aurier is also available after leaving Nottingham Forest.
