Tiger Woods is set to miss all four major golf tournaments for the second consecutive year after deciding not to submit an entry for this summer's Open Championship. The 15-time major winner, who has not played competitively since the 2024 Open at Troon due to injury and medical procedures, was expected to sit out the event at Royal Birkdale in July.
All eligible players had a deadline to inform the R&A of their intention to play, and when that deadline passed last week, Woods' name was not among the entries, according to sources. His absence comes as no surprise after he announced a break from the sport to seek treatment following charges of driving under the influence after a car crash near his Florida home in March.
Woods, now 50, is not exempt for next month's US Open. However, he holds a lifetime exemption for the Masters and can play in the Open Championship until age 60. This marks the second straight year he will miss all four majors, having also sat out the 2025 season.
Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson has submitted his name for the Open despite playing just one event this year—a LIV Golf tournament in South Africa in March—due to a personal family health issue. The six-time major champion, also not exempt for the US Open, has not missed an Open since 2009. However, his participation at Birkdale remains uncertain while his family circumstances persist.
