Nathan Bishop has revealed that Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United's goalkeepers to be more proactive in matches. The 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Mansfield Town, has been training with the first team this summer after a proposed move to Wycombe Wanderers fell through.
Bishop explained that Ten Hag's philosophy is filtering down from the senior side, with David de Gea now frequently rushing off his line to claim the ball. 'When you see the way David is playing now, running out and getting onto the ball, it’s coming down from the first team,' Bishop told the Manchester Evening News.
The young goalkeeper, who made 53 appearances for Mansfield last season, admitted he is keen for more first-team minutes and would be open to another loan move. 'I would be open to going out on loan again, to be part of a team that really has to play for points, but right now I have a job to do and that’s to help the goalkeepers at the club,' he said.
Bishop has been playing for the Under-21s when called upon and started against West Ham in Premier League 2 on Friday. He described training with the first team as 'unreal' and emphasised the importance of learning from the best.
