The Swansea Ironman 70.3 triathlon returns for its second year on Sunday, July 12, 2026, drawing thousands of competitors and elite professional triathletes from around the world. The event, part of the Ironman Pro Series, will be broadcast live on platforms including proseries.ironman.com, DAZN, and l'Équipe in France.
Event Schedule and Course Details
The competition begins with a 1.2-mile (1.9km) swim at Prince of Wales Dock starting at 7am for male pros, followed by female pros at 7:05am and age group participants at 7:10am. Athletes then cycle 56 miles (90km) through Mumbles, along Gower's coastal roads, and back to Swansea city centre. The final leg is a 13.1-mile (21.1km) two-loop run from the city centre past Swansea Arena to Mumbles and back to the marina finish line.
Registration and merchandise stalls open on Friday, July 10 from 11am to 5pm and Saturday, July 11 from 8am to 3pm. Saturday also features the Tri Club Games, Flat Tyre Clinic, and an Experience OMAN IRONMAN Pro Series Panel. Transition opens for bike and bag check-in at East Burrows Car Park from 10am to 4pm on Saturday.
Road Closures and Timings
Extensive road closures will be in place on Sunday, July 12. City centre and Oystermouth Road closures run from 6am to 5pm, with Oystermouth Road westbound closed. Kings Road closes from 4am to 10am between Sail Bridge and Y Fforwm building car park. Mumbles Road southbound closes from 6am to 10am up to Village Lane, with northbound traffic allowed.
Newton (B4593) and Bishopston roads are fully closed from 6:30am to 10:30am. Kittle and Murton see the B4436 fully closed from 6:30am to 12:30pm, then open westbound until 1:45pm. Vennaway Lane is fully closed from 6:30am to 12:30pm, then open northbound until 1:30pm. Pennard and Southgate closures run from 7:15am to 10:45am.
Parkmill, Penmaen, Nicholaston, and Reynoldston see the A4118 closed up to Reynoldston junction from 7am to 12:30pm, with Cilibion fully closed until 1pm. Llanrhidian closes from 7:30am to 11:30am, Penuel and Three Crosses from 7:30am to 12pm. Upper Killay, Langrove, Lunnon, Ilston, and Llethryd have closures from 7am to 1:30pm, with the B4271 at Llethryd closed from 7:30am to 1pm. Clyne Common and West Cross see eastbound closures from 8:30am to 1:45pm.
Burrows Place and Adelaide Street are closed from 4am to 8pm. Somerset Place closes Saturday 7am to 6pm and Sunday 4am to 6pm. Sail Bridge's pedestrian walkway remains open on one side.
Spectator Information
Organisers advise spectators to avoid the finish line due to congestion and instead arrange meeting points. Recommended viewing spots include The Woodman Pub in Mumbles, Three Cliffs Coffee Shop in Southgate, Reynoldston, Shepherds of Gower / Gower Heritage Centre, The Secret Beach Bar and Kitchen, and Blackpill Lido / Tri Club Hotspot.
Transport and Parking
Public transport is encouraged. Buses are affected: Service 4A diverts via Uplands and Sketty between 6am and 5pm; Mumbles services do not operate until 1:45pm, then divert via Uplands and Sketty; services via Sainsbury's divert via Parc Tawe, Strand, College Street, and Kingsway until 5pm; Service 38 inbound diverts via Parc Tawe. Swansea railway station is a 23-minute walk from the start and 14 minutes from the finish.
Drivers should expect delays. Available car parks include St David's MSCP (closing permanently at 11:59pm on July 12), The Quadrant, Paxton Street, The Strand Car Park, and Copr Bay South Car Park. Roadworks on Fabian Way between Jersey Marine and M4 slip road may cause additional delays.
The awards ceremony and 70.3 World Championship slot allocation take place at 6pm at the Waterfront Museum. Timings and results objections are from 4:30pm to 5pm upstairs in the museum.
