Rangers are expected to move for Hearts manager Derek McInnes if Danny Röhl completes a move to RB Salzburg. The Ibrox club and Salzburg are in talks over a deal for Röhl, who was appointed Rangers manager last October. The 37-year-old began his coaching career at Leipzig, another club in the Red Bull network. There is a growing sense in Glasgow that Röhl will accept Salzburg's offer, with a switch likely within days.
In that scenario, Rangers are likely to turn to McInnes. The former Rangers player guided Hearts to second place in the Scottish Premiership this season, missing out on their first title since 1960 on the final day after defeat at Celtic Park. McInnes took over at Hearts in summer 2025 after leaving Kilmarnock and was named Scotland's manager of the year within 12 months.
McInnes rejected the chance to manage Rangers in 2017, but it would be a surprise if the 54-year-old turned them down again. Steven Gerrard, who previously managed Rangers, has also been linked with the post. Rangers have already signed Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland after the striker exercised his right to leave Tynecastle on a free transfer at the end of the season.
