However, their Premier League title defence has faltered, leaving them battling for a top-four finish.
According to The Athletic, Slot retains the support of sporting director Richard Hughes and CEO of football Michael Edwards. The club believes Slot has faced a difficult campaign, compounded by the tragic death of Diogo Jota. However, that backing could waver if Liverpool are eliminated from both cup competitions and slip further from the top five.
Slot, who led Liverpool to the Premier League title last season, has acknowledged the scrutiny. 'I don't think it's important if it's fair or not,' he said in late 2025. 'If any manager around the world loses football games, let alone so many as we've lost, it's quite normal that people have an opinion about that.'
Former Liverpool winger John Barnes has urged the club to resist the clamour for Alonso, who was sacked by Real Madrid in January. 'Did he not fail at Real Madrid? Was he actually a successful manager?' Barnes told the Liverpool Echo. 'We won the league with Arne Slot and all of a sudden we want to sack him? I always support the managers... they have to be given time.'
