Slot Delays Wirtz Return for Liverpool's Wolves Clashes

Arne Slot has confirmed that Florian Wirtz is unlikely to feature in Liverpool's upcoming Premier League match against Wolves on Tuesday night. The 22-year-old Germany international has missed the last two games with a back issue, including Saturday's 5-2 victory over West Ham at Anfield.

Wirtz was a late withdrawal before the win against Nottingham Forest last weekend after feeling unwell in the warm-up. While the injury is not considered serious, Slot does not expect him to recover in time for Tuesday's trip to Molineux.

“I think that [Tuesday’s game] will be too early,” Slot said after the West Ham match. “But I said last week I didn’t expect him not to be available for today, so sometimes things can develop in a positive or negative way in an injury. Now we are thinking it doesn’t have to be too long, but Tuesday will probably be too early.”

In Wirtz's absence, Dominik Szoboszlai returned to the No.10 role and provided an assist for Virgil van Dijk's opener against West Ham. Liverpool face Wolves twice in quick succession, with an FA Cup fifth-round clash following on Friday after the league fixture.
