Clare Tomlinson, one of the most recognisable faces on Sky Sports, has signed off after a 27-year career with the broadcaster. The 57-year-old presenter worked her final shift on Christmas Day, bringing an end to a memorable era that began in 1998.
Colleagues past and present have paid tribute to Tomlinson, who has been called a “pioneer” for her role in sports broadcast journalism. Kelly Cates described her as “the original”, while Natalie Sawyer labelled her the “GOAT” – greatest of all time. Jeff Stelling wrote: “You have been amazing Clare. Was a pleasure working with you for so long.”
Tomlinson posted on Instagram: “Last shift after 27 years at Sky Sports! Many thanks to the hugely talented Lisa @morganandfrenchuk for my beautiful necklace.” She also shared a photo alongside her partner Carl Rumney.
Over the years, Tomlinson fronted shows including Goals on Sunday, Super Sunday, and Through the Night. Operating on a freelance basis in recent years, she was also at the heart of a sexism scandal that led to the departure of presenters Richard Keys and Andy Gray after they made lewd remarks about her.
Broadcaster Rob Palmer called her “the consummate professional” and “the first lady of Sky Sports”, while Piers Morgan added: “Congrats on an amazing innings, Clare.”
