Alan Shearer has predicted that Paris Saint-Germain will once again deny Arsenal the Champions League trophy, despite the Gunners' perfect record in this season's competition. Speaking on Amazon Prime Video, the former England striker acknowledged Arsenal's strength but tipped PSG to triumph, citing their experience from last year's semi-final victory over the north London side.
Arsenal currently sit top of the Premier League and have won all seven of their Champions League matches, including a 3-1 win over Inter Milan on Tuesday. Goals from Gabriel Jesus and Viktor Gyokeres secured the victory at the San Siro, reinforcing Mikel Arteta's side as contenders. However, Shearer believes they will fall short in the final.
“There is no doubt that this mob tonight, Arsenal, have got a really good chance of being there,” Shearer said. “But I just think because of what Paris Saint-Germain did last year, the players that they have, I’m just going to edge it with PSG.” PSG eliminated Arsenal in last season's semi-finals, winning 3-1 on aggregate.
Despite his Champions League reservations, Shearer expects Arsenal to claim the Premier League title, pointing to their seven-point lead over Aston Villa and Manchester City. He praised the squad's depth, defensive solidity, and the impact of returning injured players like Jesus and Kai Havertz.
Shearer also highlighted recent signings Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi as key additions, with Guehi strengthening the defence. “They will push them because of their experience but I’m not sure they’ll have enough and Arsenal will take it,” he concluded, backing Arteta's men for domestic glory.
