Benjamin Sesko has contradicted Alan Shearer's assertion that Manchester United would struggle to attract top talent this summer, with the Slovenian striker reportedly favouring a move to Old Trafford over Champions League-qualified Newcastle United.
Shearer, speaking on the Rest is Football podcast after United's Europa League final defeat, questioned how the club would lure elite players without European football. He said: 'How do they attract top players this summer and are they even going to be able to pay for them now they’re not in the Champions League? Why would big players want to go there?'
However, according to Sky in Germany, Sesko has reacted positively to United's interest and is leaning towards joining Ruben Amorim's side, despite them having no European football next season. The 22-year-old is valued at £64 million and looks set to leave RB Leipzig after they missed out on Champions League qualification.
United have already bolstered their attack with big-money signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, both of whom also chose the Red Devils over Champions League clubs. Amorim remains keen to add further firepower, with Sesko a primary target.
Newcastle, who have secured Champions League football, are still in the race but face uncertainty over Alexander Isak's future. The Swedish striker has expressed a desire to leave amid interest from Liverpool, leading Eddie Howe to confirm the board will make the final decision. 'The club will make the right decision with all the information that it has,' Howe said.
