Fenerbahce vs Liverpool: Seven Reds ruled out after Gravenberch injury
Seven Reds ruled out for Fenerbahce trip after Gravenberch blow

Liverpool will be without seven players for their Champions League trip to Fenerbahce after Ryan Gravenberch joined the Reds' injury list.

The Netherlands international was an unused substitute for Liverpool's loss to Arsenal, with Andoni Iraola revealing he was struggling with a heel issue. That injury has now ruled out the midfielder from making the trip to Istanbul for the Reds' fourth Champions League league phase game.

Szoboszlai and Munoz return

Liverpool had welcomed back both Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz from injury against the Gunners to bolster Iraola's squad, with the pair both coming on as substitutes in Sunday's defeat. They both came through their appearances unscathed, with Szoboszlai marking his comeback on social media.

Posting on Instagram following the defeat to Arsenal, the Hungarian wrote: “Good to be back out there. Plenty to build on. We keep going together.” Szoboszlai and Munoz have been included in the Reds' travelling squad after shaking off injury. But Gravenberch's absence has dealt Iraola a new blow.

Long-term absentees and ineligible players

Liverpool are already without long-term absentees Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike, while Jeremie Frimpong has been ruled out until after the November international break with a muscle injury. Leoni could return to team training following the international break himself, having been sidelined for over a year with an ACL injury. It had previously been hoped that the Italian would return last month, only for his comeback to be delayed. Bradley and Ekitike are currently not expected back until December at the earliest.

The Reds will also again be without both Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo, with the pair ineligible for Champions League matches after being left out of Liverpool's European squad at the start of the season. They have both barely featured for Iraola's side this season, making just one two-minute substitute outing between them, with the Basque instead favouring handing opportunities to some of the club's younger players like Lewis Koumas and Trey Nyoni.

Fenerbahce's own absentees

Iraola named a 22-man travelling squad for the trip to Istanbul, with academy graduates Jayden Danns, James McConnell and Luke Chambers all included to bolster numbers in response to the Reds' lengthy injury list.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahce look set to be without at least Jayden Oosterwolde, Kojo Oppong, Nathan Ake and Marco Asensio through injury, while captain Mert Hakan Yandas is not eligible for the Champions League after being left out of their European squad while still serving a suspension for his involvement in the Turkish betting scandal.
