Seamus Coleman will leave Everton at the end of the season, bringing a 17-year association with the Premier League club to a close. The right-back, who has captained the side since 2019, holds the record for most Premier League appearances for Everton with 372.
The 37-year-old has not yet decided whether to continue playing elsewhere or to retire and take up a coaching role offered by the club. Coleman, who joined from Sligo Rovers in 2009 for just £60,000, was named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2013-14 and is widely regarded as one of the best bargains in Premier League history.
Injury has limited Coleman to only three top-flight appearances this season. If he features in either of Everton’s final two matches – at home against Sunderland or away to Spurs – he will move into 10th place on the club’s all-time appearance list with 434 games across all competitions.
“After more than 17 years at this great football club, I've decided this season will be my last as a player here,” Coleman said. “The club have offered me an opportunity to stay on at the club. I'm going to take a nice, long holiday and look back on what has been an amazing time as an Everton footballer.”
Coleman, who will turn 38 later this year, added: “This will always be my football club. My family, here and back in Ireland, are Evertonians for life.”
