Paul Scholes has suggested that Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson would be a 'really good signing' for Manchester United, as doubts persist over Casemiro's long-term future at Old Trafford. The former United midfielder spoke on the latest episode of The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, highlighting Anderson's potential to strengthen Ruben Amorim's midfield.
Casemiro, now 33, has enjoyed a strong start to the season with three goals and an assist in ten Premier League appearances. However, his contract expires next summer, with a 12-month extension option available but no renewal talks underway. Scholes acknowledged Casemiro's improved form but expects him to move on when his deal ends, a view shared by fellow ex-United star Nicky Butt.
United invested around £220m in new signings over the summer but failed to land a combative central midfielder, with Brighton's Carlos Baleba proving unavailable. Anderson, 22, has emerged as a target, with reports suggesting a fee of £100-120m could be required to prise him from Nottingham Forest. Scholes praised Anderson's athleticism and versatility, noting his development from an attacking midfielder into a number-six role for England.
Butt agreed Anderson could become a 'top, top player' but cautioned that United need more than just him to challenge for major honours. 'To get Manchester United to where they want to be, they need a lot more than just that,' he said, adding that any new signing must be an upgrade on current options.
