Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has named Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali as the Premier League's best midfielder, ahead of Arsenal's Declan Rice and Chelsea's Moises Caicedo. Scholes made the claim on The Overlap, praising Tonali's control and style.
Tonali, who joined Newcastle for £55 million from AC Milan, has become a key player for Eddie Howe's side, helping them qualify for the Champions League and win the Carabao Cup last season. Scholes described him as a 'controlling type' who plays with style and scores goals.
Scholes criticised Caicedo, saying he is not an all-round midfielder despite his recent good form. He also questioned Rice's tendency to take too many touches, preferring Tonali's efficiency. 'I would probably choose Tonali at this point,' Scholes said.
