Liverpool are hopeful that Mohamed Salah will return from injury in Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City, as the Egypt international prepares for his emotional farewell tour. The 33-year-old forward, who announced last week that he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season, missed the Brighton defeat and Egypt’s friendlies with a muscle problem sustained in the Champions League win over Galatasaray.
Salah has responded well to treatment, and there is confidence he will feature at the Etihad Stadium. Alexander Isak may also be available for the first time since fracturing a leg in December, although the Champions League quarter-final first leg at Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday is considered a more realistic return date for the £125m British‑record signing.
Less encouraging is the fitness of Alisson, who remains a major doubt for the trip to Paris after sustaining a hamstring injury on the eve of the Brighton game. The Liverpool goalkeeper has experienced repeated hamstring problems in recent seasons.
Meanwhile, Florian Wirtz has claimed he has become a stronger player after struggling since his £116m move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer. The Germany international, who has scored four goals and provided two assists in the Premier League, told German television programme Sportschau: “It wasn’t an easy phase... I had to learn to become stronger and hold on to the ball.”
