The Slovenian FA has confirmed that World Cup final referee Slavko Vincic has officially retired from refereeing. The 46-year-old was chosen by FIFA to officiate Spain's victory over Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Historic career ends
In a statement, the Slovenian FA said: "One week after the World Cup final in the USA, Slavko Vinčić officially concluded his historic refereeing career at the very top of the world." Vincic became the first Slovenian head referee to take charge of a World Cup final, solidifying his status as one of the sport's top officials.
Awards and recognition
As the crowning achievement of his farewell season, the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) named him the best referee of the World Cup, and he received the prestigious Giulio Campanati award in Italy.
