Viktor Gyokeres has praised Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, along with defenders Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba, as the Swedish striker edges closer to a move to the Emirates. The 27-year-old, currently at Sporting CP, is a top target for Mikel Arteta's side, with negotiations reportedly reaching up to £70 million.
In an interview with France Football, Gyokeres singled out Saka as an impressive player, alongside Manchester City's Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic. He also highlighted the quality of Gabriel and Saliba, whom he faced in the Champions League last season. The striker stated: “Midfielders like Bernardo Silva, Kovacic at Manchester City or Saka at Arsenal are impressive to watch. I’ve also faced very high-level defenders, like Gabriel and Saliba.”
Gyokeres, who previously spent time at Brighton without making a Premier League appearance, expressed his desire to return to English football. He said: “It’s one of the biggest leagues in Europe. I spent several years there without being able to play a single match. So, of course, it’s something I’d like to do. It would be great revenge!”
The Sweden international has been prolific for Sporting, scoring 97 goals in 102 appearances and helping the club win the domestic double last season. Reports indicate he did not attend training on Friday, aiming to force through his move to Arsenal, and is also expected to miss Sporting's pre-season camp in the Algarve.
Gyokeres acknowledged the possibility of leaving Sporting, saying: “That’s football, you never know. The most important thing for me is to play for a club that really wants me.” He is reportedly willing to face fines to secure his transfer.
